In 2012, when girls-education activist Malala Yousafzai was 15 years old, she was shot by the Taliban. She survived, and shortly thereafter, the United Nations created International Malala Day. Today, the July 12 celebration includes events in over 100 countries, with all efforts going toward giving the world's 32 million girls who are not in school the opportunity to fulfill their potential. Read more
